Questions newcomers ask me

How long do I have to get an Indiana driver's license after moving?

New residents with a valid out-of-state license have 60 days to get an Indiana driver's license, according to the Indiana BMV.

When are property taxes due in Indiana?

Indiana property taxes are paid a year behind, in two equal installments due May 10 and November 10 of the following year. If a due date falls on a weekend or holiday, it moves to the next business day.

How do I file the homestead deduction in Indiana?

File with the auditor in the county where the home is, using the Sales Disclosure Form or Form HC10. The current state form says to file on or before January 15 of the year the taxes are first due. Your county auditor can tell you if you have already filed.

What is the income tax rate in Southern Indiana?

The Indiana state income tax rate is 2.95% for 2026, plus a county local income tax that ranges from 1.00% in Harrison County to 2.16% in Scott County among the six counties I serve.

Who provides electricity in Southern Indiana?

It depends on the exact address. Duke Energy and several REMC co-ops serve these counties, and Scottsburg runs its own city electric department, so check with the provider for your address.
